Emergency crews have responded to multiple crashes across Chatham-Kent, as a major winter storm rips through the region.
Ontario Provincial Police officials tweeted at 9:20 a.m. that Highway 401, between Tilbury and London, is closed in both directions.
“Highway closed following multiple collisions,” OPP officials say.

Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services officials say “white out conditions” are being seen across C-K.
“Also a major accident on the 401 near Kent Bridge and another at Communication,” fire officials tweeted at 9:27 a.m.
“Terrible driving conditions across CK. Please stay home if you’re able to. If you do need to drive, be prepared with an emergency vehicle kit.”

Chatham-Kent EMS officials said in a tweet at 9:08 a.m. that road conditions and visibility in spots is very poor at this time.
“Our team is currently responding to several motor vehicles collisions throughout the Municipality at this time,” EMS officials tweeted.
“We are strongly encouraging everyone to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.”
