Man arrested for assault
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 5:55 p.m., police responded to a home on Main Street in Ridgetown for a family dispute.
Through investigation, police learned the man and his mother engaged in a verbal argument.
The altercation escalated when the man picked up kitchen items and threw them to the floor, damaging them.
He struck the victim with the handle of a broom and spat on her several times.
The victim was able to lock the man outside the home and called the police.
Police also learned the man had taken the victim’s vehicle without her permission earlier in the day.
The 30-year-old Ridgetown man was arrested and charged with mischief, assault, assault with a weapon, driving while disqualified and taking a motor vehicle without consent.
He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Man arrested for impaired driving
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 6:11 p.m., police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Eight Line Road in Tilbury East Township.
The man lost control of his car, left the roadway, and came to rest in a ditch.
The man and passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
Through investigation, the first officer on the scene believed the man was driving his vehicle while impaired.
The man underwent breath tests.
A 59-year-old Raleigh Township man has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.
He has been released with conditions pending a future court date of February 20, 2023.
