Wind warning issued in Chatham-Kent, 100 km/h wind gusts expected

A wind warning has been issued in Chatham-Kent, as southwesterly winds gusting up to 100 km/h are expected.

Environment Canada officials say the timing is late this morning into this afternoon.

“Temperatures are expected to soar above 10 degrees Celsius today making it feel more like late March or early April,” forecasters say.

“These warm temperatures will help create windy conditions with wind gusts up to 100 km/h. The winds will weaken this evening.”

This wind warning has been upgraded from a special weather statement that was previously in effect, forecasters added.

“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur,” Environment Canada officials say.

“Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. Utility outages may occur. Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.”
