Wallaceburg Tartans senior boys basketball team saves their best for last

The Wallaceburg Tartans senior boys basketball team saved their best performance of the season for their last game of the year against the John McGregor Panthers.

The Tartans coaches say it was a “thrilling nail biter” throughout the game, hel;d earlier this week in Chatham.

The quarter scores were 19-18 after one, 34-32 at the half and 54-44 with the Tartans losing going into the fourth quarter.

“In the final frame, the boys illustrated deep determination to get back into the game,” head coach Lee O’Neil told the Sydenham Current.

“They dropped a whopping 26 points. Then with 4.4 seconds left, with the score 70-67 for McGregor, a high school career defining moment occurred. A play call came in for Ethan LeBlance to take the final shot. With ice in his veins, Ethan got the ball in from the inbounder and nailed the shot in two defenders’ faces. This tied the score at 70-70 forcing overtime and an eruption of joy from the Tartan faithful.”

O’Neil added: “Sadly, the Tartans ended up losing in overtime, but the coaches and all the fans could not have been prouder of their performance.”

High scorers of the game were Charlie Rumble with 20, Brayden Mitchell with 18, LeBlance and Ashton Vink with 15 each.

Ryan Bowen and Nash Grealis were defensive players of the game.
