What renovations reveal

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

For the last five months of 2022 the main floor of my home underwent a complete renovation.

Work continued into the first month of 2023, as well, and I wondered if we would ever finish.

We encountered a number of obstacles along the way which led to the inevitable delays.

Despite a competent and diligent contractor doing excellent work, we still faced unexpected setbacks.

Drop ceilings and old floors were removed revealing covered up damage and shoddy workmanship from previous owners.

Pandemic-induced product shortages kept us waiting for days and even weeks on end.

Even some of the product we did acquire proved to be damaged and had to be replaced.

This whole adventure has made me think of how our house repairs mirror the work the Lord has to do in our lives.

Our sin has left our souls in a bad state of disrepair necessitating complete renovation.

The prophet Jeremiah once paid a visit to the potter’s house to see what work he was doing on his pottery wheel.

God had a message for him in Jeremiah 18:3-4: “So I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was working at his wheel. And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter’s hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do.”

The Lord is willing to do the renovations in our life that are necessary if we are willing to submit to the sometimes painful process required to get us there.

We are now two months into this year and it is not too late to let God start breaking ground in your heart.

I encourage you to ask Him to work in you to bring out what He wants for your life.

The process will take some time, and may be painful at times, but the end product will be worth it.

My newly-renovated house reminds me of this fact!
