Murray Street Bridge to be closed from March 8 to May 1 in Wallaceburg

As anticipated, the Murray Street Bridge in Wallaceburg will be closed for nearly two months.

“Commencing Wednesday March 8, 2023, the Murray Street Bridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic until May 1, 2023,” Municipality of Chatham-Kent officials said in a media release.

“One sidewalk will remain open for pedestrian traffic for the duration of the closure.”

Municipal officials say the following two detours will be in place to direct traffic around the site:

– The first detour includes: Murray Street, McNaughton Avenue, Wellington Street and Margaret Avenue.

– The second detour includes: Murray Street, Queen Street, Gillard Street, McNaughton Avenue, James Street, Margaret Avenue and Wellington Street

“Landform Civil Infrastructures Ltd. (LCI) has been working on the rehabilitation of the Murray Street Bridge over the Sydenham River, in the Community of Wallaceburg, since December 2022,” Municipal officials say.

“For the remainder of the rehabilitation, the Murray Street Bridge will not be operable for larger boats, however, smaller boats that do not require to bridge to be opened will be accommodated. The bridge will be operational by May 15, 2023, coinciding with the beginning of the Navigation season.”

Municipal officials added: “Chatham-Kent is committed to working with Landform Civil Infrastructures Ltd. to maintain a safe and orderly worksite. All efforts will be made to reduce the impact on the surrounding areas. Construction sites have many potential hazards and extreme caution should be taken by adhering to the safety requirements and to stay outside of the construction zones.”
