Chatham- Kent Community Foundation & South Kent Wind Community Fund 2023 spring grant applications open

The Chatham Kent Community Foundation (CKCF) and the South Kent Wind Community Fund, a donor-advised fund of the CKCF, are pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for the 2023 Spring round of grants.

Registered charities in Chatham-Kent may apply at www.chathamkentcommunityfoundation.ca by March 31, 2023.

There is over $500,000 available to grant in 2023.

“We are proud to have granted over $574,000 to help support 45 charitable organizations in Chatham-Kent in 2022, and we are looking forward to continuing to support the community through grants in 2023,” stated Chris Pegg, CKCF Executive Director.

Organizations receiving grants in 2022 from the Community Fund of the Chatham Kent Community Foundation

Blenheim Youth Centre – $ 7,640- To support supplies and materials, travel, direct staff costs, field trips and promotional items/ads for Summer Theme programs.

Chatham Kent Animal Rescue – $6,000 – To raise funds by owning Lure equipment and be able to transport it and store it.

The Floyd Foundation for Animal Treatment – $29,521 – To subsidize veterinary services for clients who can’t afford them.

Learning Disabilities Association of Chatham-Kent – $5,000 – To run the Better Emotional and Social Times (B.E.S.T) Social Skills Training Program.

Restorative Justice Chatham-Kent – $23,000 – To run the ‘Positive Strides’ program in Chatham-Kent.

Westover Treatment Centre – $6,000 – To replace rooftop heater furnace at the Centre.

YMCA of Southwestern Ontario – $4,000 – To support financial subsidies for children, families and individuals to access YMCA programs.

Organizations receiving grants in 2022 from the South Kent Wind Community Fund

Knights Booster Club – $ 15,732 – To purchase 40 Chromebooks to be used in the classrooms of Queen Elizabeth II PS in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation – $15,000 – To purchase a new cuddle/bariatric bed.

Chatham Off Road Biking Association – $10,000 – To fund planning, material, and labor to construct a pump track.

Blenheim Youth Centre- $6,756 – To increase the budget for daily snack and 2 weekly meals, and to replace kitchen equipment.

Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent – $6,500 – To fund programming and services for the Therapeutic Recreation and Life Links program.

Campfire Circle- $6,000 – To support In-Hospital and Community & Virtual Programs for children with cancer and their families.

Squash Ontario – $ 5,500 – To build two concrete squash courts and two pickle ball courts in Dresden.

Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority- $5,340 – To fund the creation of native wildflower pollinator gardens at elementary and high schools throughout Chatham-Kent.

May Court Club of Chatham – $5,000 – To purchase nutritious food for the Breakfast Program at QEII and the ELB Snack Program.

SWONT Conductive Education Trust Fund – $5,000 – To provide summer programs for children with Cerebral Palsy and other motor challenges.

The Kidney Foundation of Canada- $3,800 – To fund the Emergency Short-Term Financial Assistance program.

Chatham Kent & Lambton Children’s Water Festival – $3,000 – To fund tents, port a johns, security, golf carts, first aid support, entertainers, support for volunteers, materials for activity stations, brochures, signage, and bussing.

Kids Kicking Cancer Canada- $2,385 – To provide two “Heroes Circle” programs at Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent.

Junior Achievement of SW Ontario – $2,000 – To run JA Dollars with Sense and JA Economics for Success programs for Grade 7 and 8 Students.

Organizations receiving grants in 2022 from the Community Fund of the Chatham Kent Community Foundation and the South Kent Wind Community Fund

Reach Out Chatham Kent (R.O.C.K.) Missions – $20,000 – To run James St. Drop-in, which supports those dealing with food insecurity, people without homes, or precariously housed.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chatham-Kent – $26,000 – To enhance the Big Bunch life skills program.

SkaNa Family Learning Centre – $20,000 – To finish second floor of buildings in Chatham and Wallaceburg to provide Indigenous cultural programming for children and families.

Dresden Sidestreets Youth Centre – $14,000 – To expand operating hours and provide additional youth programming post-pandemic, by opening doors to youth every weekday.

New Beginnings ABI & Stroke Recovery Association – $10,846 – To purchase a new CNC Machine.

Active Lifestyle Centre – $15,000 – To support Foot Care clinics that are held at the Active Lifestyle Centre.

Community Living Wallaceburg – $10,000 – To renew and refresh the agency’s Snoezelen Room.

Knox Pantry and Soup Cellar – $10,000 – To run Knox Food Pantry & Soup Cellar Lunch programs.

Society of Saint Vincent de Paul – Camp Vincent – $10,000 – To purchase new bunk bed mattresses.

St. Andrew’s Residence – $10,000 – To purchase a new truck for the Meals on Wheels program.

YMCA of Southwestern Ontario – $9,819 – To purchase equipment to complement child and youth programming and support aquatics.

Dollywood Foundation of Canada – $9,000 – To support the “Imagination Library” – quality hard cover age-appropriate books are mailed to children monthly at no cost to them from the time they register until their fifth birthday.

Society of Saint Vincent dePaul – Wallaceburg – $15,000 – To establish and maintain a food pantry for the Wallaceburg community.

Tilbury Rotary Club – $8,853 – To create a pollinator and butterfly walk in Northside Park.

Acceptional Riders – $12,020 – To run a therapeutic equine program for children and adults with physical, developmental social and mental health needs using horses as a tool.

Tilbury Area Action Team – $6,989 – To support Tilbury youth in sports.

The South Kent Wind Community Fund is a donor-advised fund within the Chatham Kent Community Foundation that was created by South Kent Wind LP, a wind power facility owned by Pattern Canada and Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. (“Samsung”), together with the Chatham Kent Community Foundation. The Fund began with an initial donation of $1 million in the spring of 2013, and over its 20-year operational life South Kent Wind LP will contribute another $10 million to the Fund.
