Crash leads to impaired driving charge

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, around 8:30 p.m. emergency crews responded to a serious two vehicle collision on Maple Line in Dover Township.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a man driving up pick-up truck westbound on Maple Line re-ended the car in front of him, causing the car to leave the roadway and strike a hydro pole.

The driver of the truck was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The driver of the car was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention.

Through investigation, police believed the man driving the truck was driving while impaired by alcohol.

He was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

The 60-year-old Pain Court man was charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm.

He was released pending a future court date of May 29, 2023.

Total damage was estimated at $70,000.

The collision remains under investigation by the Traffic Management Unit.
