OPP: Automated License Plate Recognition system helps identify suspended driver

OPP officials allege: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham Detachment has charged an individual following a traffic stop.

On May 15, 2023, at approximately 11:07 p.m., a members of the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle on the eastbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent following a suspended driver notification from the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.

The driver provided a false identity to police and was subsequently arrested after the correct identity was confirmed.

As a result of the investigation, a 53-year-old Chatham man was charged with:

– Obstruct peace officer

– Driving while under suspension (Two Counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on June 26, 2023.
