Come Together CK & The Community Shop searching for a new home

ComeTogetherCK/The Community Shop, a local registered non-profit organization, announced recently its search for a new building to accommodate its growing needs and amplify its impact within the community.

Since its establishment in 2020, ComeTogetherCK (CTCK) has been tirelessly working towards building community, unleashing untapped potential in each of us in CK, and enriching the lives of all in our community, positively impacting the lives of community members across CK. CTCK is a volunteer-led, incorporated not-for-profit entity focused on bringing the entire Chatham-Kent community together to ensure our community is a supportive and welcoming place to call home. CTCK was instrumental in the creation of The May 16th Miracle food drive and The Gift annual Christmas gift/food drive, as well as several other initiatives designed to support the community.

Over the last two years, one of the initiatives the group has facilitated is the establishment of the “ComeTogetherCK Community Shop.” Currently located in the Downtown Chatham Centre, in space generously donated by the owners, The Shop operates as a workshop and pantry space to support members of the community. It operates with a volunteer group of over 20 people who do whatever is needed. Since The Community Shop was started, initiatives have included large downtown cleanup days designed to clean debris and assist in beautification efforts in the downtown core, creating signs for different events, Suicide Awareness walks, making and creating Takwihleew Orange Shirt Pins, and much more.

The search for a new building is driven by many factors:

– Increased Capacity: As the demand for ComeTogetherCK’s services has grown, there is an urgent need for a larger facility that can accommodate additional volunteers. This will enable the organization to serve a greater number of individuals and families within the community.

– Enhanced Program Offerings: A new building will provide the necessary infrastructure and resources to expand existing programs and develop new initiatives. This will allow ComeTogetheCK to offer a broader range of services, addressing the evolving needs of the community in a more comprehensive manner.

– Accessibility and Convenience: The organization is seeking a new building that is centrally located and easily accessible to its target population. A convenient location will ensure equitable access to services, making it easier for individuals from all backgrounds to benefit from the organization’s programs.

“We are extremely grateful to the owners of the Downtown Chatham Centre,” said Brent Wilken, Executive Director with CTCK, in a media release.

“The owners gave us space for the Gift 2021 as a distribution site, and from there, the Community Shop was born. Had they not supported our vision and the work we do, the Community Shop may not exist today. We thank them for believing in us and giving us space to dream big. As we look for a new location, we are excited for what the future holds for CTCK and The Community Shop and continue to make a difference in Chatham-Kent.”

ComeTogetherCK invites interested parties, including property owners, developers, and community stakeholders, to join forces in this exciting endeavor.

Potential building criteria include:

– Approximately 20,000 square feet to accommodate administrative offices, program spaces, and storage facilities.

– Adequate parking facilities for staff, volunteers, and visitors.

– Compliance with relevant accessibility and safety standards.

– Flexibility for future expansion or reconfiguration as needed.

– Proximity to public transportation and other community resources.

ComeTogetherCK is committed to responsible stewardship and will explore all funding options, including grants, donations, and community fundraising campaigns, to support the acquisition of a new building.
