The Downtown Wallaceburg BIA has an opening for a summer Kayak Rental Shop Attendant for the summer at our new initiative Whimsies Paddle Rental. This rental is a non-profit that aims to connect our customers to our history, businesses, environment, and culture.
The position in Wallaceburg will run for approximately a consecutive eight (8) week period. Mandatory Kayak Safety Training at Pelee Wings.
Job Description:
This summer position works closely with our Coordinator and other summer employees to operate and maintain the kayak rental from our location in Downtown Wallaceburg.
Essential Functions
- Day to day kayak rental operations & sales
- Setting up kayaks for rental customers
- Checking in and payment processing for rental customer
- Safety briefings and launching rental customers
- Providing information about our experiential programs and making reservations for lessons and tours
- Maintenance
- Ensuring the facility is in excellent condition
- Clean, maintain and repair the rental fleet of kayaks and equipment
Qualifications
Required Education, Skills, Certification etc.
- Interest in kayaking and the outdoor industry
- Excellent customer service and in person communication skills
- Experience with a POS system and payment processing
- Paddle Canada Basic Skills certification an asset (Certification will be provided if needed)
- Self-motivated and detail oriented
- Love working outside and being physically active
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Able to lift over 50lbs
- Lift and carry approximately up to 50lbs in each hand, many times each day
- A high level of organizational and problem-solving skills
- Highly effective verbal communication skills
- Available on all stat and holiday weekends
- Comfortable working on your feet, outside for a 7-hour shift
- Comfortable working outside in the summer sun
