OPP: Stunt driving charges laid on the 401

OPP officials allege: On June 28, 2023, at approximately 11:42 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle on the westbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, for speeding.

As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old of Bowmanville was charged with the:

– Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit

– Driving while under suspension

OPP officials allege: On June 28, 2023, at approximately 1:14 p.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle on the eastbound Highway 401 near the 132-kilometer marker, Municipality of West Elgin, following a driver’s licence status notification from the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.

As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old of Petersburg was charged with:

– Driving while under suspension

OPP officials allege: On June 29, 2023, at approximately 5:33 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle on the eastbound Highway 401, Municipality of Dutton-Dunwich, after it was found travelling more than 60 Km/h over the posted limit.

As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old of Windsor was charged with:

– Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed

OPP officials allege: On June 30, 2023, at approximately 8:40 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle on the eastbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, after it was found travelling more than 60 Km/h over the posted limit.

As a result of the investigation, a 56-year-old of Glencoe was charged with:

– Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed

OPP officials allege: On July 3, 2023, at approximately 10:33 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle on the eastbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, following a driver’s licence status notification from the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.

As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old of Pickering was charged with:

– Driving while under suspension

– Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

OPP officials allege: On July 4, 2023, at approximately 12:14 a.m., an officer with the Chatham Detachment stopped a passenger vehicle travelling on the westbound Highway 401, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, after it was found speeding more than 65 Km/h above the posted 100 Km/h speed limit.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 20-year-old of Henrico, Virginia was charged with:

Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – Excessive speed
Driver fail to surrender licence

Anyone charged with Drive motor vehicle – Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment of the involved motor vehicle and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.
