Municipality of Chatham- Kent

The leaves are falling! 🍂
While raking and blowing leaves can be a pain, consider mow-mulching your leaves! ♻️

Leave the leaves where they fall and make a few passes over them with a lawnmower to mulch them.

Mulching leaves provides nutrients that help your soil and lawn stay healthy, as well as supports microorganisms and insects that live in the soil. 🌱🐜

⛔ Please do not blow your leaves into the roadway because:
👎 They obscure road lines and markings.
👎 Create a hazardous slippery surface when wet.
👎 Clog storm drains and sewers resulting in excess water in streets and yards.
👎 Conceal potholes, bumps, or dangerous objects that may have fallen into the road.

✳️ If you’d rather bag your leaves and yard waste for curbside collection, use plastic garbage bags and set them out with your regular trash for pick up. Please remember that these bags will count toward your bag limit.

▶️ See the Brush & Leaf pickup schedule at https://www.chatham-kent.ca/services/garbage/Pages/Brush-and-Leaf-Pick-Up.aspx

Yard waste will be collected in certain neighbourhoods by Public Works. If your address qualifies for pickup:
👉 Please have your brush and leaves at the curb no later than 7:00 am on the day of collection. Loose brush must be piled in an orderly fashion and should not exceed 4 bundles of 5ft x 3ft x 3ft. Tree limbs must not exceed 5 inches in diameter.
👉 Do not mix items such as wood, brick, or brush with the leaves as they can damage equipment or injure workers.
👉 Help our crews by removing cars from the street during leaf pickup.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent also owns and operates nine Leaf and Yard Depots located throughout the Municipality. These sites accept yard waste from residents each operating day.
