Eleanor Gayle Hockin of Wallaceburg passed away peacefully in Chatham on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the age of 84.
Gayle is the daughter of the late Gordon and Anna (Taylor) Wadsworth.
Beloved wife to W. Austin Hockin.
Loving mother of David (Rocio), Kevin and Shawn Hockin.
Dear grandmother of Keegan and Madison.
Gayle is survived by her siblings Gary Wadsworth, Allan Wadsworth (Janis), Kendall Wadsworth (Evelyn), Kay Lozon, Donald Wadsworth (Colleen), Brenda Dejong (Herb), brother-in-law Duncan Hockin (late Colleen) and pre-deceased by Barbara O’ Connor (Dick), Barbara Wadsworth, Linda Wadsworth, Alta Wadsworth, Ron Lozon, Kathleen Emery and Clifford and Evelyn Hockin.
She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and her dear friend Sandra Hystead and Gayle’s Goddaughter Shelly Hystead Seca.
During her high school years Gayle worked at Colwell’s five and Dime and then at the Wallaceburg Brass before starting a family.
She volunteered for the Sydenham Hospital Ladies Axillary, Salvation Army Kettle Drive and Trinity United Church.
She bowled competitively until her arthritis wouldn’t let her continue.
Gayle enjoyed her scratch tickets and word puzzles, but what Gayle loved most was cooking Sunday dinners for her family.
Family and Friends are invited for visitation at Trinity United Church, 750 Wellington Street in Wallaceburg, on Monday, January 29 from 11 AM – 2 PM with the funeral service to follow at 2 PM.
Interment in Riverview Cemetery will take place in the spring. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg.
