The annual spring rite of passage has finally arrived: March Break

The annual spring rite of passage has finally arrived: March Break!

As a kid I absolutely lived for this week of academic reprieve.

Breaks from routine are important and necessary.

God set the precedent for this in creation when He rested on the 7th day after all of His creative work was done.

Jesus took retreats with His disciples from time to time and even started each day by getting up early and spending quiet time alone with His Father.

What do you do for a break?

Do you have any special plans with your family this week?

For many people a break needs to be planned because the busyness and hectic pace of daily living tend to choke out free time.

We always say we’ll take that day off or go on that vacation or go and visit family in another town, but alas, that day never comes.

Let me encourage you to write it down and intentionally and deliberately take that break.

The work at the office can wait; there’s always another day to get to the stuff that’s in your computer’s inbox.

Your family needs you NOW!

Do something this week that cuts away from your usual routine and then make it a habit.

In fact, pray about it and ask God to show you the way… He’s good at this sort of thing because He invented it!

If you don’t have school-age kids, and March Break is just another week for you, why not do something anyway?

Changing up our routine and doing something different can add a measure of freshness and encouragement to our daily lives.

Why not make this week count?
