Damaged cell phone in Wallaceburg leads to mischief charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 8, 2024, police responded to Willis Street in Wallaceburg for a mischief investigation.

Through investigation, officers formed ground to charge the man for damaging a cell phone.

Officers also discovered the courts had released the man on February 12, 2024, with conditions to reside at the Willis Street address and notify the police of any address change in writing 24 hours prior to moving.

When the man could not be located a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On March 12, 2024, at 10:01 p.m., police observed the man at a convenience store on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Officers recognized the man from previous encounters and confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The 29-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with mischief and failing to comply with a release order.

He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
