Focusing on Christ’s death

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Today marks the beginning of an important week for those who follow the Christian faith.

It is the final week of Lent and the week leading up to the celebration of Christ’s death on the cross.

Think back on your life and consider which one-week period would rank as the most important of your life.

Was it the final week of university, the week before you got married, the first week with a newborn child?

Maybe it was a special vacation or an emotional vigil at the bedside of a dying loved one?

For Jesus, it was this particular week, the one just before His death and subsequent resurrection.

The gospel writers devote their writings to the last three years of Jesus’ life, for the most part, but the majority of that is consumed by the events of this Passion Week.

Why so much attention to this special timeframe?

I think it is because there is a message here for all of us, a message that can change our lives.

Let me encourage you to employ a few different ways to get the most out of this week.

First, you can attend a short, 20-minute service each day from Monday to Thursday at noon at Our Lady Help of Christians Church here in Wallaceburg.

Secondly, check out one of the many Good Friday services happening at various churches, which focus on the death of Jesus Christ.

Thirdly, take some time to read the Gospel of John, starting at chapter 13 and going to the end.

Finally, plan to go to a service next Sunday, Easter Sunday.

Who knows?

Maybe this week will be different for you after all?
