Update: Aggravated assault charges laid after a weapons incident at Tecumseh Park in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 18, 2024, at 2:09 a.m., police responded to a weapons incident on King Street West in Chatham.

The investigation revealed four people, two men and two women, were present at the time of the incident. The meeting had been prearranged in an attempt to resolve a dispute.

In the confrontation, a man wearing a balaclava assaulted another man with a knife, causing injury. In an act of self-defence, a woman intervened inflicting injury to the attacker, sustaining injury in the process.

As a result of the altercation, three people were injured. Another person who was present at the scene was identified as a witness to the incident.

All three individuals received medical attention.

On March 25, 2024, a 19-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with disguise with intent, failing to comply with a probation order, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of failing to comply with a sentence, and two counts of aggravated assault.

He was held pending a bail hearing.
