C-K native wins CKHA Foundation’s inaugural Igniting Healthcare Spring 50/50 draw

After weeks of ticket sales and support from across Chatham-Kent and beyond, the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation has announced the winner for their first-ever Igniting Healthcare Spring 50/50.

The winning ticket number CK-7052050 was drawn on Friday, May 3, 2024 and Jason Howes from St. Thomas was named as the winner of the grand prize jackpot of $74,690.

Foundation officials say Howes is a father of three who recently moved to St. Thomas from McKay’s Corners, and has supported the Igniting Healthcare 50/50 Fundraisers for years.

“I grew up in Chatham-Kent and just moved to St. Thomas last year for work, so I’ve always bought tickets for these 50/50s as a way to support this hospital that’s been so good to me and to my family,” Howes said, in a media release.

“I never really thought that there was a chance that I would actually win, so when I got the call, I was definitely speechless. I’m still having a hard time believing that this is real.”

Howes purchased a whopping 1,500 numbers, including the lucky number CK-7052050.

While Howes and his wife are currently focused on preparing for their son’s birthday this weekend, he plans to buy a brand new smoker, and finish his pilot’s license with his winnings.

Foundation officials say a grand total of $149,380 was raised through the fundraiser, with proceeds to support the areas of greatest need at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

“We are so thankful for your support in helping make this 50/50 an overwhelming success,” Foundation officials say.

“You are helping fund the purchase of life-saving equipment, facility upgrades and program innovation at our hospital sites in Chatham and Wallaceburg, and making a real difference for local patients. Stay tuned for our next 50/50 coming up this summer, which is sure to be another huge success thanks to you.”
