Lambton Catholic Sports Council track and field meet taking place June 4 in Sarnia

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board has announced the Lambton Catholic Sports Council track and field meet on Tuesday, June 4, at the newly constructed track at St. Patrick’s High School.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., featuring around 400 athletes from Grades 3 to 8 across Sarnia-Lambton schools.

Track events will include sprints, long-distance runs, and relays, while field events will feature long jump, triple jump, ball throw for junior and intermediate athletes, and shot put for senior athletes.

The meet will begin with a 10 a.m. opening ceremony, including a ribbon-cutting and a parade of athletes to celebrate the new St. Pat’s track.

Following this, the POEPEL (People of Every Possible Educational Level) races will include students with special education needs, highlighting SCCDSB’s inclusive spirit.

St. Clair Catholic has also launched a 50/50 raffle to support the new track and field facility.

This space will serve students and athletes throughout Sarnia-Lambton and will be accessible to the wider community and people of all abilities.

Raffle tickets are available to the public until June 20, 2024, and can be purchased at the meet or online at www.rafflebox.ca/raffle/stclair.

The final draw will be on June 21, 2024, with the winner contacted directly.

“We are thrilled to host this track and field meet at our new St. Pat’s track,” said Scott Johnson, Director of Education at St. Clair Catholic District School Board, in a media release.

“This event showcases our students’ athletic abilities and our commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive community. The 50/50 raffle is a great opportunity to support the development of a premier athletic facility.”

Spectators are welcome to join and cheer on the athletes.
