Update: Garage fire and explosions in Merlin, man airlifted to hospital

Update from Chatham-Kent Police: The roads are now open in Merlin.


Update from CK Fire and Rescue: Firefighters were dispatched just before 8 a.m. this morning to a garage fire at 26 William St. in Merlin.

Fire officials say stations #17 – Merlin, Station #16 – Raleigh South, Station #19 – Tilbury we all on scene.

One male was taken to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with serious injuries and has been transferred to a burn unit.

CK Fire Investigators are currently on scene and the Office of Fire Marshal is also attending.

The fire is under investigation and no future details will be released at this time.

Please avoid the area.


Update: Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege the fire was a garage fire. One man was transported to the hospital for medical attention by Ornge air ambulance.
