A Wallaceburg Councillor is hoping to see some extra street lights in the downtown core.
Wallaceburg Councillor Aaron Hall entered a notice of motion at the Monday, June 24, 2024 Council meeting which would, if approved, direct staff to explore including additional lighting over the downtown Wallaceburg sidewalks, as part of the street light replacement project.
“The previously approved street light replacement project for downtown Wallaceburg has experienced delays, due to budget constraints,” Hall said in his motion, adding a recent Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, or CPTED, audit completed in downtown Wallaceburg highlighted the need for increased lighting over the sidewalks.
“A healthy and safe community is an area of strategic focus in CK Plan 2035… (and) planning and advancing downtown renewal projects is included in the term priorities for our current term of Council.”
Hall added a CCTV project for downtown Wallaceburg was recently approved by Council as well.
Hall’s motion also asks that all details, including estimated cost and timing, be brought back to Council “as soon as possible” for discussion and voting.
The item is set to be on the agenda for the Monday, August 12, 2024 Council meeting.
