It was a busy day in Dresden on Thursday, as Dresden’s new family doctor – Dr. Malay Shah – began accepting patients.
Sources say that there were people lined up three hours before the Dresden Medical Centre opened for the collection event.
Dresden Community Healthcare Foundation officials say a second “collection only” event will be held on August 28, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Wheelhouse in Dresden, located at 547 North Street.
“Applications will not be available by phone or in person at the Dresden Medical Centre,” Foundation officials said on social media.
“Applications will only be valid for residents that are completely without a family doctor. Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance. Applications will be reviewed by Dr. Shah and individuals will be contacted as accepted.
Earlier this month, the Dresden Community Healthcare Foundation said on social media they were “very excited” to formally announce the successful recruitment of Dr. Shah, who will be joining the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team at the Dresden site.
“Dr. Shah received his undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney in Medicine and Surgery and completed his fellowship at the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and holds a Diploma in Child Health from Sydney Children’s Hospital Network at the University of Sydney,” Foundation officials say.
“Dr. Shah has been working as a family practice physician at Gateway Health in Wangaratta, Australia. In 2023, Dr. Shah joined the College of Family Physicians of Canada to prepare for practice medicine in Canada.”
Foundation officials say Dr. Shah will be starting his practice in November 2024 in the Dresden Medical Centre located at 530 Tecumseh Street.
