In celebration of diversity and the newcomers who have chosen Chatham-Kent as their home, Chatham-Kent Public Library is offering the following events for Welcome Week:
– Visit the Storybook Trail in Kingston Park (Chatham). Celebrate Welcome Week by reading “How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World” by Marjorie Priceman on the storybook trail.
– Tilbury Branch – Monday, September 9 at 10 a.m. Join us at Tilbury Branch to read a few stories in Italian, French and English! We’re going to celebrate Welcome Week through stories followed by a craft. No registration required. Suitable for kids 0 to 6.
Chatham-Kent Public Library also offers a multilingual collection.
Card holders can place holds and pick up items in their chosen language at any CKPL Branch.
CKPL offers books in 19 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, German, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese.
CKPL expects shortly to add materials in Malayalam, library officials say
CKPL also carries dual-language picture books so that stories can be read in 2 languages at once.
