Canada marks September 30 as National Truth and Reconciliation Day.
This day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.
In honour of this day, Chatham-Kent Public Library branches are offering the following programs:
– Every Child Matters Pin Workshop – Wallaceburg Branch, Saturday, September 21 at 11 a.m. Spend the morning with the CK Museum and Come Together CK and learn to make Takwhihleew orange shirt pins. Sponsored by Mainstreet Credit Union.
– Orange Shirt Day – Chatham Branch, Friday, September 27 at 10 a.m. Stories and activities in honour of the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada. In partnership with Ska:na Family Learning Centre. Drop-in. Best suited to children 0 to 5 years old.
– Make Your Own Orange Shirt Pin – All branches. Each library branch will have supplies, generously provided by Come Together CK, for people to visit their local branch and spend time making their own Orange Shirt pin during Truth and Reconciliation Week.
