You are not alone in your battles and experiences.
That is one of the takeaways that new independent author, Joel Emery, hopes you receive from his inspirational book, In My Write Mind: Musings on Mental Health, Self-Growth, Relationships, and Everything in Between.
Being the son of a self-published children’s author, there was a chance that Joel would catch the writing bug.
He began writing whimsical stories, though horribly drawn, on blue-lined paper at a very young age.
His passion for creative writing continued as he shared his experiences and thoughts through various blogs and social media platforms.
In 2018, Joel disclosed his journey through anxiety, which served as the catalyst for his book.
While mental health plays a large role in the creation of Joel’s book, other themes also have supporting roles.
In My Write Mind is an unstructured nonfiction book that invites you to explore Joel’s human experience thus far.
Comprised of various thoughts, readers can take time to connect and reflect as they wander through beautiful illustrations created by local artist Sarah Steele.
A personal essay about a pivotal moment in the author’s life is also included.
“We are all connected by the human experience,” Emery said in a media release.
“Our stories have the power to create connection, community, and compassion. I hope that through my own experiences, someone will feel comforted, inspired, or heard.”
You can purchase Joel’s book and have it signed at Turns and Tales in downtown Chatham on Saturday, October 5, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
