Canada issues travel advisory, says to avoid Florida’s coasts due to Hurricane Milton

The Canadian Government has issued an alert regarding Florida’s coasts, telling Canadians to avoid non-essential travel, due to Hurricane Milton.

Federal officials say people should avoid non-essential travel to the following parts of Florida:

– West coast: From Chokoloskee to the mouth of the Suwanee River, including Tampa Bay, Lake Okeechobee and the Dry Tortugas.

– East coast: From the St. Lucie/Indian River County Line northward to Ponte Vedra Beach.

The National Weather Service in the United States says Hurricane Milton is set to bring damaging winds, life-threatening storm surge and heavy rainfall to Florida.

“Milton has intensified into a major hurricane and is expected to make landfall along the West Coast of the Florida Peninsula early Thursday morning,” NWS officials stated.

“Hurricane, Tropical Storm and Storm Surge warnings have been issued. Heavy rainfall from Milton will result in widespread flash flooding Wednesday across central Florida, with life-threatening and catastrophic flooding probable.”
