Railroad tie fire on Running Creek Road in Wallaceburg

Fire fighters from Station #3 – Wallaceburg and Station #2 – Chatham were dispatched to Running Creek Road at 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, October 8, 2024, for reports of large flames coming from the area.

“When crews arrived, there were five-foot flames and black smoke coming from railroad ties,” fire officials said in a media release.

“Wallaceburg Volunteer Firefighters and Tanker 5 from Tupperville were also dispatched to assist. A tanker shuttle was established, and portable pumps were operated.”

The Ministry of Environment was notified, fire officials added.

“Neighbouring homes were visited to advise about toxic smoke in the area, this warning has now been lifted.”

The cause is undetermined, fire officials added.
