Lambton OPP officials say on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, just before 8 p.m., the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Walpole Island First Nation Police, Emergency Medical Services and local Fire responded to a structure fire at an address on Chiefs Road, Walpole Island First Nation.
One individual was transported to local hospital with serious injuries.
“The fire is being treated as suspicious, and the Lambton County OPP Crime Unit is continuing to investigate with the assistance of Walpole Island First Nation Police and in conjunction with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office,” OPP officials said in a media release.

Walpole Island Fire Department officials said on social media there was a loud explosion during their fire suppression operations.
“Due to this explosion, a firefighter was sent to hospital with (non-life threatening) injuries. Two residents were removed from the house before the fire department arrived and transported to hospital. Unknown of their injuries at this time.”
Walpole Island Fire Department officials were asking the public to avoid the area if possible.
