Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On October 29, 2024, at approximately 12:13 a.m., while conducting proactive patrols for stolen vehicles in the Bothwell area, an officer observed a pickup truck driving approaching him from the opposite direction on Selton Line.
After obtaining the vehicle’s license plate, the officer attempted to make a U-turn to conduct a traffic stop; however, the pick-up truck quickly vanished from site.
Upon further investigation, the pickup truck was traced back to a female resident in Bothwell.
As the officer was driving to the registered owners address, the vehicle re-reappeared, and he promptly conducted a traffic stop.
The driver, a 36-year-old Moraviantown man, was found to be operating the vehicle while under suspension.
During an inventory search of the truck, officers discovered a .223 rifle. a loaded .32 caliber handgun, a significant quantity of methamphetamine, materials used for drug packaging and over $1,000 in cash. The man was arrested.
He was transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges:
– Two counts of careless use of a firearm
– Two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm
– Two counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
– Two counts of unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
– Possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition
– Possession of a controlled Substance for the purpose of trafficking.
– Driving while suspended
As a result of the bail hearing the man was remanded into custody, with a scheduled video court appearance on November 1, 2024. He was transported to Southwest Regional Detention Centre.
