A group of volunteers in Wallaceburg has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign to bring much-needed family doctors to the community, where an estimated 3,000 residents currently lack primary care.
The campaign, announced October 24, aims to raise $100,000 over eight weeks to recruit three family physicians to the Wallaceburg Community Medical Centre.
To kick off the initiative, National Bank Financial’s Fairway Wealth Management matched donations up to $10,000 on November 7, helping raise $22,500 on the first official day of fundraising.
The campaign continues with a radiothon hosted by the radio station in Wallaceburg on November 12, sponsored by Aarkel Tool and Die.
The event will include an auction, with bids—successful or not—matched by Oaks Retirement Village up to $2,500.
Community members can also drop off donations at Riversite Realty on James Street, payable to the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team.
