The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton has announced its 2025-2026 funding allocations after surpassing its 2024 fundraising goal of $1,487,000, reaching 100.2 per cent.
The successful campaign allowed the organization to avoid cuts to community programs.
The volunteer Board of Directors approved funding for 28 programs, maintaining support for 27 existing initiatives and increasing funding for one. The funding includes a $4,800 boost to the BGC Summer Day Camp program to address growing demand for child care. The program now operates out of three locations, two in Sarnia and one in Forest.
The United Way’s funding portfolio allocates 47 per cent of its budget to Poverty to Possibility, 30 per cent to All That Kids Can Be, and 23 per cent to Healthy People, Strong Communities.
A Critical Services Grant supporting Family Support Services through the Children’s Aid Society will continue until March 31, 2025.
“Last year, United Way programs directly impacted 23,000 people, about 17 per cent of Lambton County’s population,” said Gerry Whitcombe, chair of the Community Investment Committee.
Whitcombe added that 77,000 volunteer hours were contributed to the programs, equivalent to over five years of full-time work.
“We are so grateful to all donors, supporters, and volunteers who ensure these programs are there for those most in need in Sarnia-Lambton,” he said.
The Community Investment Committee reviews funding applications and past program results before making recommendations to the Board of Directors.
