Alexandrino Texeira Oliveira (1935 – 2025)
A man who centered his life around Faith and Family.
Alexandrino, 89, of Wallaceburg, Ontario, died in his home surrounded by family on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
He was born in São Jorge, Açores, Portugal, in 1935 to José Leal and Rosa Texeira. As a child, he was known for his speed, whether it was racing his friends up the mountain to milk the cows or swimming around the island of Sao Jorge to other villages. He was passionate about tending to his farmland, both in Angola, Africa, and when he settled with his family here in Wallaceburg, Ontario.
Alexandrino met the love of his life, Julia, in Norte Grande in 1959. It was love at first sight. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married a few months later on September 12th, 1959. Immediately following the marriage ceremony on the same day, the two newlyweds traveled for 16 days by ship headed for Angola, Africa where they raised their family for 16 years. They finally celebrated their wedding reception 50 years later on their family farm in Canada. Alexandrino and Julia were blessed to be married for 65 years.
Alexandrino and Julia couldn’t wait to start a family of their own, and their children meant the world to them. Deodete (the late José), Gorety (Rick), José (Trish), John Paul (Liz), Fatinha (Anselmo), Alexandrino Jr. (Celeste), Anabela (Adrian), Sarah (Peter).
Alexandrino worked at Waltec in Wallaceburg from 1978 to 1996. He was an active ember of Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Wallaceburg. He passionately hand-made and donated rosaries to people across the world.
Though he loved farming and making rosaries, Alexandrino’s favourite role was that of a grandfather. He treasured his time with their grandkids and loved being their Avô, never failing to make room for each of them on his lap. He was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his playful nature and comforting smile. We couldn’t have asked for a better Husband, Pai, Avô, and Bisavô.
Family and Friends are invited for visitation at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 4-7pm with Parish Prayers at 4pm. The Holy Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 11 am at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, followed by burial at Riverview Cemetery.
