Holy Family students take part in Jays Care RBI program in Wallaceburg

For the past 12 weeks, Holy Family has been buzzing with excitement as a group of student-athletes participated in the Jays Care Baseball program.

Led by school secretary Jenny Lips, teacher Linsey Hartford, and Child and Youth Worker Greg Westman, the program provided students with an opportunity to connect, get active, and build new skills through baseball.

The program concluded with a celebratory event on Monday, January 13, 2025, St. Clair Catholic District School Board official said.

Students gathered for snacks and a special presentation of Jays Care t-shirts and hats, marking the end of an incredible season.

Holy Family was one of 957 schools across Canada hosting a Jays Care program this year.

“The Jays Care program has brought students together across grades to build friendships, stay active, and practice important social-emotional learning skills,” stated Principal Colleen Cogghe, in a media release.

“It’s been inspiring to see them bond over a new sport and create new friendships and memories.”

Jenny Lips added: “It was such a special day celebrating everything they’ve accomplished. The excitement was contagious as they showed off their new skills. It was heartwarming to see older students stepping up as friends and mentors to the younger ones, creating such a positive and supportive energy.”

In addition to providing baseball equipment, Jays Care Foundation supports schools with SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) resources and encourages lasting connections through sport.
