Voting details for the upcoming Ontario Election

Chief Electoral Officer Greg Essensa signed the writs last week for Ontario’s 44th general election.

Voting began Jan. 30 and continues until election day on Feb. 27.

Elections Ontario officials say Canadian citizens who will be 18 or older on election day are eligible to vote.

“Elections Ontario is encouraging voters to confirm or update their registration at RegisterToVoteON.ca to receive a voter information card detailing when and where to vote,” Elections Ontario officials say.

“Voters have several options, including voting by mail, at local election offices, or on election day. Advance voting is available at any location within a voter’s district from Feb. 20 to 22. Home or hospital visits can be arranged for those unable to travel to a polling station.”

Key dates for voters include:

– Jan. 29 to Feb. 21: Apply to vote by mail until 6 p.m.

– Jan. 30 to Feb. 26: In-person voting at local election offices or by home visit request until 6 p.m.

– Feb. 13: List of candidates published after nomination deadline at 2 p.m.

– Feb. 17 to 19: Hospital visits for voting

– Feb. 20: Assistive voting technology available at local election offices

– Feb. 20 to 22: Advance voting in electoral districts

– Feb. 27: Election day voting from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Political advertising is banned from Feb. 26 to Feb. 27.

Election surveys not previously published cannot be released on election day, Elections Ontario officials added.
