The Gordie Green Memorial Fund is now open for 2025.
“We provide financial assistance for children living in Wallaceburg, Ontario, who want to play hockey but need help with the registration fee,” organizers say.
The Gordie Green Hockey Memorial Fund was created in memory of ‘Gordie’ Bryan Green and raises money each year in order to help children living in Wallaceburg Ontario with the opportunity to play hockey.
“The goal of the fund is to pay for children’s registration fees for The Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association and provide equipment when needed,” officials with the Fund say.
Bryan Green was born and raised in Wallaceburg Ontario.
“As a child, he loved playing hockey, but with 7 brothers and sisters, money was tight, so hockey registration fees and equipment weren’t in the budget. Despite being unable to play on a team, Bryan would get up at 4 a.m. to skate on free ice time, and he never missed a game of pond hockey. He made his own equipment out of old pop bottles, and he was such a great skater that he gained the nickname “Gordie” (after Gordie Howe) among his peers.”
Gordie Green Memorial Fund officials added: “Bryan’s friends and family have created the “Gordie Green Hockey Memorial Fund” to honour his memory and give back to his beloved community. Bryan was an incredible father, husband, brother and friend. Sharing his love of hockey by helping children in his community is a legacy that we hope will continue to grow.”
