Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On April 1, 2025, the Chatham-Kent Police Service successfully resolved two significant investigations with the assistance of the Municipality’s installed CCTV system.
The first incident involved a serious assault in Chatham.
The alleged offender’s identity was initially unknown, prompting members of the Major Crime Section to become involved.
Investigators quickly accessed CCTV footage based on information provided by the complainant.
Within minutes, members of the Major Crime Section were able to identify the offender’s vehicle and license plate.
This led to the swift identification of the individual, advancing the investigation.
Without the use of this technology, the offender would have likely remained unidentified for an extended period, relying solely on traditional investigative methods.
Later that morning, Chatham-Kent Police Service officers were dispatched to a call for a missing youth in the Dresden area.
Initially, limited information was available to investigators.
However, a review of CCTV footage from the downtown core of Dresden helped determine the youth’s direction of travel.
Frontline officers, including the Emergency Response Team (ERT), successfully located the youth.
This technology allowed investigators to focus their efforts in a more refined geographic area which ultimately helped bring the call for service to a conclusion.
These two investigations clearly demonstrated the value of CCTV technology as an essential tool in modern policing.
By enhancing the ability to gather timely and accurate information, the system helps officers respond more effectively and keep the community safe.
