Walpole Island First Nation officials are reminding the public to watch for needles during their spring cleanups.
“As we all get into spring cleaning mode here on Walpole Island, please be extra cautious when picking up litter, especially in outdoor areas,” Walpole Island officials stated.
“There have been reports of needles being found, and it’s important to take the proper precautions.”
Walpole officials say if you find a needle:
– Do not touch it with your bare hands.
– Use designated tongs or a grabber to pick it up safely.
– Place it in a sharps container right away.
– Wash your hands thoroughly afterward.
“Sharps containers will be available for pick up during Earth Week clean-up starting 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22 to Friday, April 25,” Walpole officials added.
“You can also get sharps containers at the Walpole Island Health Centre, contact them at 519-627-0765 to check availability. Let’s work together to keep our community clean and safe. Please share with anyone taking part in clean-up efforts.”
