West Kent Councillor Melissa Harrigan is looking to explore adding more CCTV cameras across Chatham-Kent.
Harrigan entered a notice of motion at the April 7, 2025 Council meeting and the item is set to be on the agenda for the April 28, 2025 meeting.
“CCTV cameras have been in place in Chatham-Kent for approximately two years (and) petty crime and vandalism continues to happen in community spaces and parks outside of existing CCTV areas, costing Chatham-Kent in staff time and resources, negatively impacting public spaces for the general public usage,” Harrigan said in her notice of motion.
“Community members have expressed desire to expand CCTV cameras to other public areas.”
Harrigan is requesting from staff for Council to receive a report on the usage, successes, and opportunities of CCTV cameras, including the opportunity, legal advice and cost to expand into other public spaces, such as parks
She’s also requesting that the report include any recommendations for how those expansion costs and ongoing lifecycle costs could be funded and any Provincial grant opportunities.
The April 28, 2025 meeting is set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Civic Centre in Chatham
