Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On April 20, 2025, at 5:51 a.m., Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a complaint of a vehicle parked at a business on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg.
The vehicle had reportedly been in the parking lot for a few hours with the four-way flashers (lights) on and a male driver was slumped over the wheel.
Officers located the vehicle with a lone 52-year-old male occupant from Wallaceburg passed out at the wheel.
The vehicle was parked across two spaces, with the ignition on and headlights.
Chatham-Kent Police officers were able to wake the male occupant and escorted him from the vehicle.
Police conducted a roadside investigation and noted signs of impairment consistent with drug use.
The male driver appeared confused, had difficulty speaking and showed poor coordination.
Subsequently, he was arrested and transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters, where he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).
According to the results, it was determined that the accused was impaired by drug use.
He was charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Drug.
The accused was released with a scheduled court date of May 26, 2025.
