Police respond to a shooting on Aamjiwnaang First Nation

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: On April 22, 2025, shortly after 5 p.m., police responded to an address on White Circle in Aamjiwnaang First Nation after receiving a 911 call for a shooting.

Upon arrival, police took 5\five people into custody for firearms offences and located a 29-year-old male suffering from an obvious gunshot wound to his lower body.

Investigation revealed that a bullet had traveled through his left leg, breaking his femur, and continuing into his right leg.

This male was transported by ambulance to Blue Water Health.

However, due to the severity of injuries, he was later airlifted to London Health Sciences where he is still undergoing treatment.

At this time, this appears to have been the result of an unintentional firearm discharge.

Police have since released four of the arrested persons unconditionally but have charged and held for bail a 32-year-old Sarnia man with the following:

– Careless use of a firearm

– Pointing a firearm

– Assault with a weapon

– Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order

– Unauthorized possession of a firearm

– Fail to comply with a release order

– Fail to comply with probation (2 counts)

Officers were expected to be on scene for several hours as this investigation is still ongoing.
