Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 17, 2025, at approximately 9:16 p.m., a 48-year-old male from Romney Township attended a gas station in the Wheatley area, where he pumped fuel and left without making a payment. The incident was captured on video surveillance, and police were contacted.
Chatham-Kent Police Service officers reviewed the footage and successfully identified the suspect. Later that morning, police located the individual in the town of Wheatley. He was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000. The suspect was given a notice to appear in court on April 14, 2025, but failed to attend. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.
On May 7, 2025, at approximately 9:42 a.m., the Chatham-Kent Police Service was notified that the suspect was in custody with the Leamington detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. Officers attended and executed the outstanding warrant. The accused was released with a scheduled court date of June 9, 2025.
