May is Museum Month in Wallaceburg, and this year’s celebration carries extra weight — and excitement — as the town marks its 150th anniversary.
The Wallaceburg and District Museum is leading the charge with a full slate of events and activities aimed at engaging the community, boosting museum membership, and honouring local history in a big way.
“We want this to be a celebration for everyone,” organizers said. “Whether you’re a longtime resident or visiting for the first time, there’s something here for you this May.”
Prizes and Local Support
One highlight of the month-long celebration is a Community Prize Giveaway, where visitors to the museum can enter a ballot each time they stop by. Prizes — donated by local businesses and supporters — are up for grabs, and multiple visits mean more chances to win.
Membership Drive in Honour of 150 Years
The museum is also aiming to sign up 150 new members during the month in tribute to Wallaceburg’s milestone year. Memberships are available at $20 for individuals and $25 for families, with business memberships also encouraged.
“It’s a simple way to show your pride in our town’s heritage and support the museum’s future,” a museum spokesperson said.
Youth Activities and Mystery Puzzles
For younger visitors, weekly scavenger hunts and the return of the popular Googly Eye Friends activity offer a fun, interactive way to explore exhibits. Each week features a new mystery word to discover, with prize entries open for kids who crack the code.

Visitors are encouraged to document their experience by snapping a photo during their visit and posting it to social media using the hashtag #WallaceburgMuseum. The goal is to not only draw more visitors throughout the month but to spread awareness of the museum’s work in preserving Wallaceburg’s story.
