From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
There is a great principle in Scripture that can be applied to so many areas of life, especially when it comes to choosing leaders or trusting someone to handle a greater level of responsibility.
In Luke 16:10 Jesus said this: “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.”
In other words, when a person proves themselves in a small task they indicate an aptitude to succeed in something bigger or more significant.
In 1988, Elliott Hill was a 19-year-old intern working in apparel sales for Nike.
Thirty-two years later he is the company’s CEO.
Hill proved himself faithful in a little thing and proved to be faithful in much.
In the Bible, David became Israel’s favourite king, and led them to many victories in battle, but he sure didn’t start out that way.
Consider what it says in Psalm 78:70-72: “He also chose David His servant, and took him from the sheepfolds; from the care of the suckling lambs He brought him, to shepherd Jacob his people, and Israel His inheritance. So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them with his skillful hands.”
David, as the youngest of 8 sons, faithfully looked after his father’s sheep at home, and eventually, God promoted him to shepherding God’s flock as king.
What job are you working at these days?
If you are someone starting out, perhaps in a part-time situation paying minimum wage, are you giving an honest day’s work for an honest day’s wage?
Regardless of where you are at and what you are doing, ask yourself, “Could I be doing a better job at this?” When our heart is right no job is beneath us and we can do it well.
We are then in a position for promotion, should that opportunity come.
Let’s start by being faithful RIGHT NOW!
