Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Two local men are facing charges after police responded to a theft at a convenience store on June 2.
Officers with the Chatham-Kent Police Service were called to the scene around 8:17 p.m. after two individuals were reportedly seen leaving the store without paying for several items.
Shortly after, at approximately 8:23 p.m., police located the two suspects — a 28-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both from Chatham-Kent — walking nearby. The younger suspect fled on foot, prompting a short chase. He was later apprehended, and a weapon was found in his possession during a search. The 28-year-old was arrested without incident. Police were able to recover the stolen items.
Both individuals were transported to Chatham-Kent Police headquarters.
The 28-year-old is charged with possession of property obtained by crime.
The 19-year-old faces multiple charges, including theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, escape and being at large without excuse, obstructing police, and failing to comply with a probation order.
Both men were released with conditions and are scheduled to appear in court on July 14.
