Disturbance at downtown Chatham bank leads to mischief charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On June 3, 2025, at approximately 11:54a.m. the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a call regarding ongoing disturbances at a downtown financial institution in Chatham.

Officers arrived to find a 51-year-old male from Chatham-Kent damaging municipal landscaping in front of the property. Debris from the damaged area was scattered across the adjacent public sidewalk, creating a safety hazard for pedestrians.

Further investigation revealed the accused had also disturbed public infrastructure by removing material from along the walkway.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the accused had been involved in a series of previous unwanted incidents at the same location on May 30, 2025. His ongoing presence raised safety and security concerns for both customers and employees.

Subsequently, the male was arrested and charged with the following:

– Mischief Under $5,000

– Mischief – Interfere with lawful operation of property

The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police headquarters, where he is currently being held for bail.
