OPP to announce its largest-ever fentanyl seizure and dark web drug probe

The Ontario Provincial Police will unveil details from two major drug trafficking investigations during a media event scheduled for Tuesday, including the force’s largest seizure of fentanyl to date and its first case involving the use of the dark web.

The announcement is set for 10:30 a.m. on June 10 at the Aviation Hangar at OPP General Headquarters in Orillia. The event will also be livestreamed on the Ontario Provincial Police YouTube channel, here.

According to a release, the two separate investigations highlight the growing risks posed by illicit drug activity across Ontario. One case marks a first for the OPP, involving trafficking operations conducted via the dark web, while the other led to the largest fentanyl seizure in the organization’s history.

Exhibits from the investigations will be on display and interviews will be available following the announcement.

Police say the results underscore the devastating impacts of the opioid crisis and the evolving nature of the drug trade in communities across the province.
