Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a statement on Saturday marking National Indigenous Peoples Day, reaffirming his government’s commitment to advancing reconciliation in full partnership with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities.
Carney said Indigenous leadership is central to building a stronger economy, including through the One Canadian Economy Act and initiatives like the Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program.
He also pledged continued work on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, the Calls for Justice from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
“Together, we can build a better future,” Carney said.
