Fire crews responded to a structure fire at 404 Grand Avenue East in Chatham at approximately 8 p.m. on June 23.
Crews from Station #1 and Station #2 – Chatham arrived to find heavy flames coming from a multi-unit residence. A two-company alarm was issued and Station #2 was upstaffed to assist.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control and fully extinguish it. The fire caused an estimated $200,000 in damage. Heat exposure from the fire also melted the vinyl siding of a neighbouring residence to the west.
Units 1-11, 2-14, 3-13, CK1 and CK3 responded to the incident. Chatham-Kent Police Service and EMS were also on scene.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office will be attending the site today to investigate.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and Chatham-Kent Police are currently holding the scene.
