The popular Summer ARTcrawl is back Friday, July 18, offering an evening of art, music and community across downtown Chatham.
Running from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the free event invites attendees of all ages to explore four creative venues, experience diverse exhibitions, hear live music by Philip Jacobs, and enjoy refreshments along the route.
The ARTcrawl kicks off at 5 p.m. at ARTspace (165 King St. W) with the opening of Blue Balloon—a collaborative project between the Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent and art therapist Krista Schneider. The exhibition showcases work by individuals living with dementia, using the symbol of a blue balloon to explore themes of memory, hope, and creative expression. The reception also features works by 43 ARTspace artists and themed hors d’oeuvres.
At 6:05 p.m., the crawl continues to the Art and Heirloom Shoppe (137 King St. W), where guests can view artwork from 60 Southwestern Ontario artists and enter a draw to win a $50 gift certificate.
At 6:45 p.m., the event moves to Crow City Coffee (28 William St. S) for Fear in Flesh, an exhibition by Chatham-Kent artist Laura Graham. Visitors are invited to enjoy a drink and snacks while viewing the art.
The evening concludes at 7:30 p.m. at the Thames Art Gallery (75 William St. N) with the opening of Herbaria, a group exhibition featuring Carrie Allison, Alana Bartol, Patricia Coates, Lisa Hirmer, and the Cedar Listening Circle (Susan Turcot and Eva Peskin). The exhibition explores humanity’s evolving relationship with plant life through themes of climate change, food security, and ecological sustainability, rooted in Chatham-Kent’s agricultural identity.
